It’s very much a sequel to the original movie, with Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) connecting the dots for detective Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) and expanding on the events of Predator and what humans have learned about the dangerous spacefaring warriors over ten years. However, it quickly helps sell the chaotic and blood-soaked version of Los Angeles the movie wants to play with. The decision to set the movie seven years into the future instead of 1990 is strange, as everything looks and feels one-hundred percent early 90s. Predator 2 ditched the jungle setting of the original movie for the concrete jungle of a twisted vision of Los Angeles seven years into the future (1997) there’s a huge heat wave and crime is running rampant – the perfect destination for our favorite hunters from outer space. That said, not every movie in the bunch is perfect. The movies have had a deep impact on pop culture, and as both a horror and sci-fi fan, I really treasure them. The character Ellen Ripley is also regarded as one of the most badass female characters ever depicted in cinema, and Weaver’s performance has been widely applauded. The Alien franchise is best known for its awesome and now-iconic design of the creature, otherwise known as the Xenomorph, which has given audiences nightmares for decades now.
The first movie in the series is incredibly chilling and sets the tone for the ones to follow. Ripley emerges as the one person who can stop the alien from making its way to Earth. And what the group doesn’t realize is that there’s a parasite ready to attack. On their way home to Earth, her crew makes a stop at another planet to check out a distress signal and ends up finding an alien creature.
